NAOJ Project Research Fellow 2015 at NRO
Applications are invited for the positions of NAOJ Project Research Fellow at Nobeyama Radio Observatory (NRO). The Announcement of NAOJ is here.
1. Project research fellow is a full-time position (38h45min working hours/week) employed under the scheme of the annual salary system of NINS. The number of vacancies at NRO is two.
2. Office location: Nobeyama, Nagano, Japan
3, 4. Successful candidates spend 50 % of his/her time for his/her own scientific research preferably using the NRO 45m telescope and the remaining 50 % for her/his duty on the operation and user support of Nobeyama Radio Observatory. Duty may include commissioning of new instrument for the 45m telescope, operating common use programs of the 45m telescope, CASA test to reduce 45m data, software development to simplify overall science operation.
5. (1) The term starts at 1 April 2015 or later.
(2) The term is for three years, subject to annual review. If the applicant had been the project research fellow of NAOJ before, then the term will be set shorter than three years so that their total period of employment at NAOJ does not exceed five years.
6. Applicants must have PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field and in particular have much interest in millimeter and/or submillimeter observations as well as a proven track record of scientific research as of 31 March 2015, or is expected to have it by 30 September 2015.
7. The application documents (either in Japanese or in English) must include
(1) a curriculum vitae,
(2) a summary of research activities in the past,
(3) a list of publications (Separate refereed and non-refereed papers. For co-authored papers, list all the names of authors.),
(4) PDF copy of three major publications, and (5) an outline of research plans.
In addition, the applicant should arrange one or two letters of recommendation, to be sent from the persons recommending the applicant. The names of the persons should be identified in the application cover letter.
8. The application documents and the recommendation letter must be received by 12:00 JST (03:00 UT), 14 November 2014, unless specified otherwise below.

11 The fellow will receive a monthly salary of 300,000 JYE plus compensation for commuting expenses, and annual research funds of 500,000 JYE. The travel and relocation costs to NAOJ will be covered, subject to the travel regulations of NINS (the details have to be arranged with the administration office).
