Let's make a map file for an integrated intensity map
[Image: MAP (large)]

The TASK, MAP (large) is to make a map file (2-dimentional data, for example, integrated intensity map, peak temperature map) to be used for map output from spectral data. After this task, map output can be made by using MAKE CONTOUR for contour maps or by using MAP to SSS for gray or simple color on SSS window.
reference: MAP (large)

* NOTICE:
Output file will be overwritten when the name of the output file is the same as the one already exists.

* USAGE:
1. Starting MAP (large)
Click [MAP (large)] on Button Panel. The parameter window as shown below will appear.

< Parameter window for MAP (large) >

2. Setting up parameters
  1. Input the name of a spectrum file from which a map file to be created in "spectrum file(in)". This can be done by using [File list], too. Usage of [File List].
  2. Write an output file name in "map file (out)". Choose 'MAP+' (DEFAULT) for extension and '0' for the sequence number. The program will automatically add an extension such as MAP-IT.
  3. Choose the coordinate system from '(RA, DEC)', '(L, B)', '(dRA, dDEC)', '(dl, db)', '(dAZ, dEL)' or '(X, Y)' at "Coordinate".
  4. Press [Position map]. The TTT window with observed positions will appear.

  5. Define the area to create a map file by choosing the bottom-left corner and top-right corner by using a mouse. A single click will define the positions for the corners.
    (Some details: Generally it is necessary to click just on the observational positions as the bottom-left corner and the top-right corner, when defining the map area, to set well overlapped map grid with respect to the observational positions. Otherwise, it may happen that the map is somewhat shifted from the real distribution.)

  6. Choose 'Spacing(")' for "Map grid", and put a value for spacing.
  7. Choose 'Gaussian smoothing' for "Gridding mode".
  8. Specify FWHM of the Gaussian smoothing at "obs grid / FWHM of Gaussian".
  9. Choose 'cos DEC' at "Projection Mode".
  10. Let's try 'integrated intensity' map for "Output mode", first.

  11. Click 'NO' for "Sp smoothing mode", unless otherwise you want to have the spectrum to be smoothed.
  12. Choose 'km/s' at "Unit for range" and fill in the "Sp range (MIN, MAX)" with appropriate values.
  13. Press [option] button. The option window will appear. Choose 'from header' for "Reference frequency". Press [Done] to close the option window.

3. Execution
  1. Click [Exec] button in the pull-down menu, then click [Activate program].
  2. This TASK ends with the message "Appears to have ended successfully" in the message window.

4. Draw contour maps by using MAKE CONTOUR or color maps by SSS.
