The observatory provides useful tools for making observing scripts.

Mult PA

A python script multpa.py enables users to examine when a target is observable at Nobeyama.

  1. After making the source table, type at the prompt in the server ut12x1.nro.nao.ac.jp,
    > multpa.py
  2. GUI will be shown. Enter the project name where you made source tables and click OK button.

  3. A main GUI will be appeared. “Select tables(EL)” is for making EL-LST diagram for your target(s) (Step 4). You can generate the change of the position angle in the celestial sphere as a function of LST using “Select tables(PA)” (Step 5). These two scrirpts can be used independently or simultaneously.

  4. If you click “Select tables (EL)”, following GUI will be generated. The scripts list the Source Tables in your working directory. Click all Source Table(s) you want to see the EL-LST diagram and then press “Select” button.

  5. This script cannot plot the rotation angle for multiple Source Tables at once (i.e., only one Source Table is allowed to select). The rotation angle is critical for multi-beam receivers such as FOREST, since rotatable range of the receiver is limited (for example, FOREST can rotate +-100 degrees). ‘Initial Angle’ is a sum of ‘Position Angle’ and ‘Beam Rotation Angle’ in the Scan Table. If your target reaches the limitation of the rotation angle of the receiver, you should modify the Beam Rotation Angle in the Scan Table. Preferable initial angle of the rotator depends on LST range (allocated observation time).
    Note 1: you do not need to modify the position angle in the Scan Table.
    Note 2: FOREST is the only multi-beam receiver available for the open use for the 2017-2018 observing season.

  6. Click “Plot” button in the main GUI when selection of Source Table(s) is over. Plots of LST-Elevation and Position Angle of your targets will be shown.

Obspoint

If you want to check whether your scan table is what you intend to make, a python script obspoint.py is useful (especially for OTF and Multi-Point scan).

  1. After Generate & Send your Observe Table (i.e., after all procedure for making observing scripts), type at the prompt
    > obspoint.py
  2. GUI will be shown. Enter the project name where you made the Observe Table and click OK button.
    ==ここに図==
  3. The script lists Observe Tables in your working directory. Search and select the Observe Table which you are going to check the scan pattern.

  4. Check your scan pattern. The unit of X and Y axes is arcsecond. The origin is the source coordinate defined in Source Table.
