  • NewStar will not work on a 64 bit file system (such as XFS). Please use a 32 bit file system (such as Ext4). At MDAS (Multi-wavelength Data Analysis System) of NAOJ ADC (Astronomy Data Center), please use NewStar (including the Java version, jnewstar) under the directory /lwk (which allows 32 bit) rather than /home (XFS file system).
  • Please see also " Notes for SAM45 spectrometer data on NEWSTAR ".
  • For 2SB receivers, value "zero" will appear in obtained data due to software Doppler shift correction. For details, please see ADASS2009poster.pdf or ADASS2009.pdf.
  • The scroll speed of NewStar is improved when you use a task such as "File Service". Reduction of data from the outside of NRO and NAOJ is expected to be done with less stress.
  • The back up tasks of NewStar as to tape devices have been unavailable since Aug 2008.
Introduction

NewStar is a reduction software of spectral line data obtained with the 45 m radiotelescope at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. This is a software based on AIPS (Astronomical Image Processing System) developed at NRAO, and it is extended to treat single dish data and to have a graphical user interface (GUI).

The default AIPS version for NewStar is 15APR99, and this manual is written based on this default version. (You can also use another version of AIPS 31DEC08. In this case, NewStar TASKs using AIPS TASKs of 15APR99 version should basically work. But in some cases part of the functions in such TASKs may not work, because names of adverbs rarely change.)

This manual is separated mainly into two sections, Basic manual and Reference manual. Basic manual explains fundamental aspects of NewStar, and examples of how to use basic TASKs are shown. On the other hand, details of functions of each TASK are explained in Reference manual.
